Factor interview
PLOP:First of all, please introduce yourself and tell us how you've started making music.
Factor G "www.sideroadrecords.com" (producer):I started djing in 97-98 makin mixtapes and doin locals shows around the city. Decided to start makin beats in around 99, so i bought a roland sp-808 off Epic (clotheshorserecords.com), we started makin cd-rs. My 1st pro release was Vizion Quest 12" in 01-02 and my 1st album was Factor Time Invested. The label has changed from Offbeat to Side Road but i haven't stopped making music.
PLOPYou also run the label called "side road records".Please tell me know how the label has started. Why did you change the name from "offbeats" to "side road"?
there were a couple others labels called offbeat, so we changed it.
PLOPWhat is the concept of the label?
sideroad is a hip hop label that is trying our hardest to make dope orginal music.
PLOPPlease tell me what artists influenced your music
eligh, fat jack, rza, madlib, shapeshifters, project blowed, isoseles, soso, mcenroe, etc...
PLOPYou have collaborated so many MCs.What does the collaborations with another artists for you mean?
it is an honor to have been able to work with so many talented musicians...and more collaborations to come!
PLOPI think your production is getting better and better. How do you feel your growing for the beatmaking?
thanks, i also feels my music is getting better. I think now i just have a better concept
of what i want to accomplish and how i want things to sound.
PLOPCan you play any instruments?Or please let me know how you make beats.
i will always sample, i can play the keys a bit. I use a korg triton, korg mini, roland juno 60, and lots of samples. I wanna get a couple more key boards and a mpc sooner than later.
PLOPRegarding your new release "red all over"by nolto and factor, please let me know your self-appraisal.Also you've made so many productions, which do you think the best?
i think "Red all Over" is a very dope cd. The concept nolto came up with (newspaper)is amazing, it really gave me a good direction for the production. I am not sure what the best beat i have put out yet is...but the song that got me the most excited was the track with psc and eligh - half glass full off "time invested", it just was the 1st song i was really happy with.
