PLOP:First of all, please introduce yourself and tell us how you've started making music.
My name is Ruben Kindermans, 24 years old, I live in Belgium. As a kid I was always messing around with all kinds of instruments. When I was older I learned to play the drums. I formed a group with siaz from cavemen speak and some other friends. I played drumbeats, and they rapped over it. Later I became more intersted in melody than in rhythm, so started singing and playing guitar and keyboard.
PLOP:Congratulation for your solo debut album! And we are so proud of releasing it from our label. Please let me know the concept of "Lemon Tea".
There's not really a concept. I just wanted to have very melodic, short songs. I'm always trying to make things that are very simple, almost like songs for kids.
PLOP:You made this album all by yourself including artwork and Video. What did you want to express on this album?
For the artwork and the video, I tried to create this home-made, playfull feeling that fitted with the music. The album is about trying to do stuff without a big budget, but with all the things that you can find in your environment
PLOP:What is the difference between Cavemen Speak and solo?
The biggest difference is that there's al lot more singing instead of rapping.
But the typical 'cavemen speak'-vibe is stil there on the solo album. The three different voices brought a lot of vartion in the cavemen speak songs. On my solo album, there is only my voice so I tried to put more variation in the insrumentals.
PLOP:Please let me know how you made this album.
I record everything at home on my computer. It gives me a lot of freedom to work like that. I think that recording in a studio would give me to muc pressure.
PLOP:What were your influence in music, and others (literature, movie, etc.)?
A long time ago I listened to hard core. But siaz introduced me to hiphop. I also listen to 'singersongwriter music', so I tried to make a good mix of hiphop and simple guitarsongs. I'm also very interested in visual arts. I make videowork and installations. For the moment I'm still a student in an Art institute.
PLOP:I love also epic and nomad album. How did you feel the collaboration with epic?
I was very happy to work with him, because I' m a big fan of his music. The weird thing is that we never met each other. We had to do eveything over the internet, which whas very complicated. But I'm very glad with the result.I hope I can visit him in Canada one day. I really love working with other artists cause it can be very refreshing.
PLOP:Please let me know about Belgium. Are there any hiphop scene except shadowanimals in Belgium?
There is a big scene of people who rap in dutch, but they are not really intersted in our music. Our fans in Belgium are people who listen to all kinds of music.
PLOP:Please list your recent top 5 favorite albums. (title/artist/label)
